Aventurine is a multicoloured combination mineral that is often used in beads and carvings. The most common colour is green, but it’s also often found in yellow, blue or red. Aventurine is made up of Quartz with inclusions of Mica. This Mica gives the colour to the green variety, but the colour can also be caused by other minerals. The specific effect of glitter in a mineral like in Aventurine is called aventurescence and is also seen in other minerals like Sunstone or Labradorite. The name Aventurine comes from the Italian ‘avventura’, which means adventure or chance, referring to its accidental discovery. Yellow or Red is often replicated in the form of synthetic Goldstone, before in Italy, but nowadays in China.
