Ocean Jasper is a recently discovered type of Jasper that is only found in two locations in Madagascar and nowhere else in the world. It is called Ocean Jasper, because both mines are found ashore the Indian Ocean. Typical for the stone are the many orbs with differing colours. The stone was discovered in 1999, but in 2006 the first deposit was already completely depleted. In 2013 and 2020, new deposits were discovered, but those have been depleted as well. The material from the first few veins is most prized, but the newer products are valued greatly as well. Ocean Jasper probably found its genesis in underground igneous deposits that cooled rapidly and then became submerged in water. The intense shit in temperature causes the spherification and the water adds to the large variety of elements contained within the rock.
