Celestine gets its name from the Latin ‘caelestis’ which means ‘heavenly’ (celestial), because of the incredible blue colour these crystals possess. Celestine is formed at very high temperatures, but can also crystallise from evaporated seawater. The blue variety of Celestine can only be fund in Madagascar. There are other kinds of Celestine that are found, but these are often white or yellow. These minerals are a lot less popular and thus, also harder to find for sale. Celestine is very vulnerable and soft. For that reason, it is almost never used in jewellery.
