The name Amethyst is composed from the ancient Greek words ‘a’ and ‘methyskoo’, which put together mean ‘not intoxicated’. Because of the purple colour, people often name Amethyst as their favourite stone. The colour of Amethyst varies from light to dark purple, with the last one being the most valuable. Amethist manly comes from quartz-containing water that settles in geodes; cavities in the earth formed by volcanism or other processes.
